Because we work with so many university community members, we understand just how significant the “duration of status” change will be. In addition to providing discounted application support, we have also prepared free resources to help you help your students.

How SimpleCitizen Was Born
SimpleCitizen was founded after two of its co-founders experienced firsthand how confusing, stressful, and expensive the U.S. immigration process can be.
In 2013, co-founder and CEO Sam Stoddard went through the immigration process after marrying his wife from South Korea. Despite having a straightforward case, he was quoted thousands of dollars in legal fees. As a college student studying tax accounting, Sam attempted to complete the 80+ pages of USCIS paperwork himself and quickly realized how difficult the process was for everyday families.
Around the same time, co-founder and CTO Aydé Soto Wright was navigating the immigration system after moving from Mexico to the United States to start a life with her husband. As a software engineer who was still learning English, she found the process overwhelming and inaccessible, especially for Spanish speakers. She believed technology could make immigration simpler and more approachable.
Inspired by their shared experiences, Sam and Aydé teamed up with product designer and marketer Brady Stoddard to build a simpler, technology-driven way for immigrants and families to prepare immigration applications and access professional support. The first version of SimpleCitizen launched in 2015, and since then the company has grown to support customers around the world.
